THE FINISH LINE STARTS HERE

Search for Speed is a USA Cycling talent identification program designed to introduce track sprint cycling to a wider, more diverse audience throughout Los Angeles and the Southern California basin. It provides young adults with a clear, dedicated pathway to the U.S. National Cycling Team and sport of track sprint cycling.

Funded by a generous grant from the Rapha Foundation including support from LOOK Cycle and WattBike, Search for Speed breaks down entry barriers into the sport of competitive cycling, while putting National Championship, World Championship, and Olympic medals within clear view.

Our NEW 2024 OPEN COMBINE format has made it easier than ever for a young athlete to be discovered.

Combine testing includes: 1) speed & agility; 2) vertical jump; 3) 40-yd dash; and 4) max power Wattbike (2x 6-sec) plus (1x 30-sec) effort.

      INTEGRATION

Athletes that hit the desired marks at any Search for Speed combine will then graduate to the Talent Integration phase. Athletes invited to our Talent Integration team will undergo six months of training and development with USA Cycling’s Athlete Development staff. This phase kicks off in the late summer/fall of 2024.

      PARTICIPATION

All Search for Speed combines are open to the general public. There are categories and target marks for both male and female. The desired age range is 18-28 although no one will be refused. Pre-registration is encouraged but not required.

Interested in having USA Cycling bring a Search for Speed pop-up demo to your school, business, or public event? These not only contribute to the on-going search for new potential talent, but they are also fun stand-alone events that will tap into everyone’s competitive spirit. A Search for Speed pop-up invites participants to complete a 6-second peak power WattBike effort designed to highlight athletic potential. This kind of pop-up is best served in a high-traffic zone. The host location will have the opportunity to leverage the USA Cycling brand and presence in relation to the tryout.

A 10x10 (and up to 20x20) space with a power supply is required for a Search for Speed activation set-up. USA Cycling takes care of the rest. For more information contact Search for Speed Program Coordinator, Rex Ainslie, at rainslie@usacycling.org
